Vaccine gaslighting, mask falsehoods and fake cures dominate recent claims added to the CoronaVirusFacts Alliance Database
False claims about vaccines made up a third of fact checks submitted to the database since the start of 2021.
Vaccines are not killing people. They do not change human DNA. Norway has not blamed any vaccine manufacturer for senior deaths.
Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Laurie Garrett, predicted the walls of misinformation a year ago and called for an international effort maintained by the UN to secure truth and root out disease trolls on social media.
WHO has classified all this misinformation as “Infodemic”. And a collaboration of 99 fact checking groups from across the globe is working on it, and creating some stunning interactive dataviz to play with. Certainly you know someone who needs this.
Led by the Poynter Institute the group has found a full third of the facts submitted to the international database are absolutely false, ranging from ones obvious to most of us about 5G and Hydroxy Chloroquine to more insidious things to undermining confidence in health care professionals, local and national healthcare efforts and leadership.
