Ted Cruz Laments ‘Tragic’, ‘Disastrous’, and ‘Fundamentally Illegitimate’ Gay Marriage Ruling – WATCH

Ted Cruz on Wednesday took every opportunity he could to blast the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage.

Cruz lamented the Court’s ruling during a CNN Town Hall in South Carolina when asked about “more and more opposition to Christian conservative values.” In his reply, Cruz attacked not only the Supreme Court but also Republicans who “put out statements” after Obergefell saying that gay marriage is “the settled law of the land” and conservatives must “accept it, surrender and move on.” Cruz said, “Those are almost word for word the talking points of Barack Obama.”

Via The Guardian:

“We are seeing an assault on Judeo-Christian values, we are seeing an assault on religious liberty, and we need a president who will stand up and protect those values,” Cruz says, declaring that candidates should be held to a higher standard than just parroting pro-life, anti-gay marriage statements.

“You shall know them by their fruits,” Cruz quotes the Bible, referencing his history of fighting Planned Parenthood in court and protecting a statue of the ten commandments in front of the Texas capitol. “In June of last year we saw a decision from the supreme court that was nothing short of tragic… I think there’s something really wrong when Republican candidates are echoing the talking points of Barack Obama.”

Again touching on Obergefell, Cruz said, “I think that decision was fundamentally illegitimate. It was lawless. It was completely inconsistent with the constitution. It will not stand.”

As for so-called “religious liberty”, Cruz added, “[I]f I’m elected president I intend on the first day I enter office to instruct… every government agency that the persecution of religious liberty ends today.”

Cruz also attacked gay rights on Wednesday during an interview with conservative Christian radio host Janet Mefferd, again calling the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage “fundamentally illegitimate” and this time saying it was “disastrous” and the cause of “unprecedented persecution.”
