There’s a new siren on the L.A. music scene and her name is Beca. Originally from NYC, Beca came back to the East Coast to co-produce her debut full length album, Ecliptic, with Midnight Magic‘s Morgan Wiley (also formerly of Jessica 6). In advance of the full album’s release in October, Beca dropped her second single, ‘Meteor,’ earlier this week.

The Meteor EP includes the original, nu disco-tinged track as well as a slew of remixes. The stunning music video, shot in Malibu by Angelo Kritikos, mirrors the song’s lyrics which describe a “passionate love affair that turns into a dark, devastating heartbreak.’ New York’s Tippy Toes transforms the ethereal track into a darker house thumper and reduces the vocals to airy coos and breaths, reminiscent of Britney’s iconic ‘Slave 4 U.’

Lets Play House co-founder, producer and DJ Jacques Renault, recently released his debut album Zentrum. It was difficult for me to select just one track to showcase (the whole album is available to stream on Soundcloud), especially with gems like the infectious ‘Swing Your Body’ (feat. Luke Jenner)‘ or ‘Touch You’ (feat. Emperor Machine) to choose from. However, it’s the disco churner ‘Redlight Rubber’ that holds a soft spot in my heart thanks to its frenetic energy and dramatic synths.
Horse Meat Disco‘s Severino warms things up a bit with Hi-Fi Sean on their remix of House of Stank and Get Up Recordings co-founder Christy Love‘s latest release, ‘Internal Waves.’ While the phenomenal original track is a full on acid house banger, Severino & Sean strip the psychedelic sounds and include multiple percussive elements making the track ideal for peak hours on the dance floor.
The “feel good” moment of the day comes courtesy of The Red Zone Project‘s ‘Everybody Get Up.’ This soulful gem is promoted to anthem status thanks to a fantastic remix by Spen & Gary Hudgins. The above track is only a preview, but it’s enough to keep me excited until the full release in October.
Finally, we throw it back with Booty Luv‘s ‘Boogie 2nite,’ a favorite song of mine that ruled European airwaves in 2007. Vanilla Ace & LeSonic give the nostalgic track a fresh update, giving it the tropical, deep house, rooftop vibe that’s perfect for this last weekend of summer.

OCCUPY THE DISCO (OXD) curates and recommends music events to the gay community in NYC—in an effort to move the focus of the nightlife scene beyond the promoter and venue and to the music itself. OXD’s goal is to educate, entertain, engage and empower the gay audience to reclaim their ability to question and experience the unknown. The OXD Mirror will serve to showcase tunes that are definitely off-the-beaten-path but rightfully deserve the attention of the gay ear.
