The man who attacked a married gay couple earlier this month in NYC has been arrested by the NYPD.
As we previously reported, the couple are Larry Lennox-Choate (above left) and Daniel Lennox-Choate, who in 2013, became the first gay male couple to marry at West Point Military Academy, where the two met as cadets.
The New York Daily News reports on the arrest:
Thomas Clabough was charged with assault as a hate crime and attempted assault as a hate crime after punching Daniel Lennox-Choate, 30, and shouting homophobic slurs at him and his husband, Larry Lennox-Choate, in a deli on Spring St. near Thompson St. on Aug. 2, cops said.
Police say Clabough walked into the deli and started screaming homophobic slurs at the men. He then blindsided the victim, according to a post on Larry’s Facebook account.
Larry and Daniel were more than able to handle the homophobe who “screamed anti-gay obscenities” at the pair before sucker-punching Danny. After the attack, Larry wrote on Facebook, “He left covered in his own blood with his tail between his legs after I handled the situation and tossed him in the street like the coward loser he is.” He added, “We refuse to be victims and are thankful we can defend ourselves, but are saddened by the fact that idiots like this guy might not pick two guys who went through Plebe Boxing next time.”
Daniel is a war veteran from both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Clabough is currently awaiting arraignment.
UPDATE: Larry has posted on Facebook referencing the arrest:
“Good always triumphs over evil. Maybe not on the timeline we’d prefer, but eventually.
It’s a good day for freedom. Justice is in the air and it smells damn good.
