On Monday we told you about psychotherapist Matthew Dempsey’s advice on how to put someone you’ve just started seeing romantically into the friend zone. Now Dempsey is back with tips on how to become friends with your ex–if you want to that is.
Dempsey talks with his own ex, Kyle Krieger, about how they were able to transition from boyfriends to friends. They both emphasize that time is key. You have to grieve the loss of your romantic relationship in order to start a new relationship as friends.
And of course, you don’t have to be friends with your ex. As Dempsey says, “If a relationship is just done and there’s not going to be a friendship, you can send them off with love.”
In a second video posted today, Dempsey and Krieger field questions from Twitter users about sex and dating. They also delve into HIV awareness, PrEP, and how to navigate being in a serodiscordant relationship.
