One of the few conservative leaders not attending CPAC this weekend, potential presidential contender Mike Huckabee spent some of his time yesterday with Fox News colleague Judge Andrew Napolitano discussing the controversies surrounding the right wing gathering, particularly gay inclusion.
“There are some social conservatives who decided not to go, because some of the conservative Republicans there are gays,” said Napolitano. “If you want to take back the White House from the socialists, what do you care if there are gays in the audience?”
Huckabee insisted he doesn’t “care if there are people who are homosexual,” because “that’s their business,” but then elaborated: “Here’s what I do care about: I do care that we have a group of people who say they’re conservative and who think it’s okay to overturn the historical definition of marriage.”
Napolitano went on to present marriage equality as a states issue, to which Huckabee said that each state’s civil governments need to acknowledge they are subject to a “higher, natural law,” as well.
