Broadway Beauty Pageant winner, poster boy for the upcoming Broadway Bares XX, and chorus boy in the Broadway musical Memphis, Charlie Williams is getting a lot of attention these days, especially around these New York parts.
AfterElton interviews the up-and-coming actor who's known as "Charity Charlie" by folks in his cast because of his hard work for gay rights causes.
Says Williams of his charity work: "The march happened last October on a weekend, and we had shows, so we couldn’t go down to Washington D.C. But we wanted to offer our support to marriage equality and Broadway Impact. We found out it cost $2,400 to sponsor a bus to get people there to march in our stead, so our cast raised over $3,500. We’re so excited to be part of the Broadway community. And we’re organizing a Memphis team for the AIDS Walk on May 16. Why else are we here but to get involved, spread the word and stand up for what we believe in? It just takes one person to start something, so I coordinate our Broadway Cares fund-raising. I’m also working with Gaylifenyc.org, which helps people living with HIV/AIDS. It’s so important to get the word out: People need to get tested and use protection."
Williams also tells AE he's bisexual and single. Broadway Bares XX is coming up on June 20 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
